Maintenance
Avoid walking on floors or allowing pets on the newly finished floors for the first 24 hours to allow floors to completely dry.
Begin placing furniture on the new floor 48-72 hours after the job is complete. It is important to be extra careful moving belongings and furniture while your floor is curing. Do not place any rugs on the floors until the floor is cured. Avoid allowing pets on the floor during the curing times. It takes 2 weeks for water-based polyurethane to cure and 28 days for oil-based polyurethane to cure. Do not use floor cleaners during these time frames.
Preventive care will make your finish last longer.
Keep floor swept up and free of debris
Place rugs at doorways
Clean spills up immediately
Place felt or rubber pads under all furniture and chairs
Keep soles of shoes clean and free of stones
Keep the pet’s claws trimmed to avoid any damage to the floor
For oil-based polyurethane, use 1-2 cups of vinegar to 1 gallon of warm water to clean the floor. Dampen a soft towel or microfiber cloth and clean as needed. The floor should be dry in 5 minutes after cleaning. For the water-based finish, use Bona floor cleaners only. Never use any type of wax, polish, or quick shine products such as Murphy’s Oil Soap, Pledge Floor Oil or Rejuvenate Bona High Gloss Floor Polish.
